Support Your Right to Repair

Rather than piling broken consumer goods into landfills, wouldn't it be great if you could disassemble something, replace the broken parts, and keep on using it!? The waste that this society implicitly condones is horrifying.

We live in an age where we use a camera with perfectly good optics, and take tremendous photos with it, right up until the next model is released, which offers more megapixels, a creative new way to take selfies with, and a host of features that we find we don't need after all.

It used to be that we could take something apart, see how it worked, figure out what was wrong with it (or at least take it to someone who knew how to repair it), get replacement parts, and continue to use the product - both not dumping it into a landfill, and learning valuable lessons on how things were constructed, why they failed, and the mechanics of how they worked. Now this process has been taken over by the Retail-Therapy-based activity of going to the store and buying a new product, most often assembled in another country, and filling the pockets of the company that didn't make the product reliable enough in the first place!

This is another case of looking ahead to your children's children's world, and doing what we can today to make sure that valuable resources are not at the bottom of a huge pile of garbage, and to provide these same children with valuable lessons on how things work and how to fix them.
